Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: How to get the best settings

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

is finally out in the wild, but if your PC is struggling to get the game running, then this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide is here to help. After all, Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a bit of a beast to get running on PC, so I've tested a bunch of today's

best graphics card

s with it to see what kind of performance you can expect from each one at different resolutions and graphics quality settings.

I've also got loads of tips on

how to get the best settings in Ghost Recon Breakpoint

, including which settings you can switch off to give your frame rate a bit of a boost, and which ones you should switch on to help increase performance. So, if you want to get the very best PC performance at the highest possible quality settings, then you better deploy that bivouac and make yourself comfortable. Here's how to get the best settings and the fastest PC performance in Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC requirements

First of all, you need to make sure your PC meets the

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC requirements

. I must admit, when Ubisoft first released their

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC requirements

, I was pleased to see they'd catered for so many different types of system. Not only are there specs for entry-level PCs (see below), but there are also plenty of high-end recommendations as well, including what you need to play the game on Ultra settings at both 1080p, 1440p and 4K.

However, I was also a bit surprised to see that the Ultra spec for 1080p and the Ultra spec for 1440p were effectively identical. That's pretty unusual, to say the least. Having now tested the game with a bunch of different graphics cards, though, the 1440p spec is definitely correct. This is a demanding game at 1440p, and those looking for 60fps on Ultra quality at this resolution will definitely need either an RX 5700 XT or a GTX 1080 Ti. An RTX 2070 Super will also do the trick here as well.

At 1080p, though? I think there's a little more leeway. Yes, an RX 5700 XT will definitely get you a solid 60fps at this resolution, but so will the regular RX 5700. I also saw an average of around 60fps on the RX 590 (just), RTX 2060, RTX 2060 Super and GTX 1070 as well here. So don't fret if your PC doesn't technically meet the Ultra requirements for 1080p, as there's a good chance you can still get that silky smooth frame rate if you've got one of the graphics cards I've just mentioned.

For the record, I tested Ghost Recon Breakpoint with an Intel Core i7-8700K and 16GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM, along with all the latest Windows 10 updates and graphics drivers.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: The goal

As always, the goal of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance guide

is to get a smooth 60fps at 1920x1080, 2560x1440 and, if possible, 4K at the highest quality setting a graphics card can manage. Not all graphics cards will be able to hit that speed at 1440p and 4K, but hopefully some of the settings tips below will help you push it as close to that coveted frame rate as is physically possible.

I tested the game using its built-in benchmarking tool, which involves a camera panning through a number of different environments you'll find on the island of Auroa. It includes shootouts, drone fights and all sorts of different weather conditions, and I found it to be a pretty accurate reflection of the frame rate I got in-game. Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: How to get the best settings

After the relatively easy-going demands of

The Division 2

, working out how to get the

best settings for Ghost Recon Breakpoint

is a little bit trickier. After all, it requires a bit more heft in the old graphics department, but luckily for us there are plenty of settings available in its Video menu to help us tweak its six default quality settings.

Before we get started, here's a quick glimpse at what all of these look like in-game using stills from the game's benchmarking tool:

Low

Medium

High

Very High

Ultra

Ultimate

Low, as you can see, is pretty basic. There's minimal lighting, less detailed textures, and very,

very

muddy looking water. Medium kicks things up a notch, bringing in more shadows and more detailed textures, while High goes even further, adding in more lighting effects to the surrounding buildings and trickling stream.

Very High, on the other hand, really goes to town on the environmental detail, adding in denser hedges and vegetation along with more realistic lighting and shadows, while Ultra brings even better-looking water effects. Personally, I can't actually see that much of a difference between Ultra and Ultimate (at least in this particular set of screenshots), but in its defence, Ultimate is really only intended for the very newest and most powerful graphics cards, and the game gives you a warning about it being "for future hardware only" when you try selecting it.

Still, if you do fancy a bit of Ultimate action, then there are some handy tricks you can employ to help boost your frame rate as high as it can possibly go. The first thing you can do is switch on

Temporal Injection

. This "uses samples from many frames to produce crisp high resolution images while keeping smooth frame rates", according to Ubisoft's rather unhelpful description, but the main thing you need to know is that it can boost your frame rate by up to 20fps depending on the graphics setting.

Using a GTX 1070, for example, my average frame rate on High at 1920x1080 jumped from

75fps all the way up to 95fps

when I switched on Temporal Injection, while Very High saw it rise from

66fps to 84fps

. That's pretty good going, if you ask me, and I didn't even notice any difference in overall visual quality, either.

It is, however, very CPU-intensive, so this will probably only be a viable solution if you've got a fairly modern processor. Whereas a non-TI run of the benchmark would maybe use around 40-50% of my CPU, a full-blown TI run was up nearer the 70-80% mark. As such, lower-end CPUs may struggle with this particular feature, and you may not see the same kind of gains I did with my Core i7.

Still, there are plenty of other tricks to employ to try and boost your frame rate a bit. Turning

Ambient Occlusion

down to Medium will give you another

1-2fps

on average, for example, while turning it off completely will push that closer to

3-4fps

.

Similarly, you can make use of its

Resolution Scaling

feature. This renders the game at a percentage of your target resolution - 90% of 1920x1080, for example - but upscales it to said target resolution at the same time. This takes some of the load off your GPU, and can be particularly useful when you're trying to target higher resolutions such as 2560x1440 but don't quite have the graphical chops to do the full thing.

Using my GTX 1070 as an example again, dropping the resolution scale to just 90% gave me

another 5fps

on average at both 1080p and 1440p, and it didn't even look that bad in practice, either. Even better, you can change the percentage in increments of ten, giving you a lot more flexibility than, say,

Borderlands 3

.

Those are the best things I'd recommend tweaking if you find your graphics card is starting to struggle a bit. Otherwise, you're looking at turning down quite important things like Terrain Quality, Level of Detail or Texture Quality, which ideally we want to keep as high as possible. After all, this isn't exactly the prettiest game in the world (even at high quality settings characters' faces still look like they're made out of plasticine, for example), so we really want to leave these settings alone as much as possible.

Finally, if you find your frame rate is jumping all over the place, then you may want to make use of its

Foreground Framelock

feature. This will prevent your frame rate from going above a certain number, helping you keep a steady 30fps, 60fps, or really anything in between. You can even set it to a very precise 43fps, if you so wish, as the game lets you pick any number between 20-160.

With all that in mind, then, let's see what's possible on all of today's

best graphics cards

. You can either scroll back up the page to click on the links to each individual card, or tap the page numbers below to go through them one by one.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: Zotac GeForce GTX 970

The Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 has put up a good fight over the last couple of years, valiantly fighting off game after game as it clings to its 1080p gaming crown, but

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

really pushes this 4GB graphics card to its absolute limits. It might meet the game's minimum requirements, but you're still looking at playing on pretty low graphics settings if you want to hit that sweet 60fps. You'll almost certainly be able to squeeze a bit more out of it by employing some of the tricks used on page one of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide, but it's still pretty grim reading all things considered.

The particular card I've used here is Zotac's Dual Fan edition, which is a fraction faster than Nvidia's reference specification for the GTX 970, so some results may vary depending on which type of card you've got. For example, Zotac's Dual Fan has a base clock speed of 1076MHz and a boost clock speed of 1216MHz, which is a smidge higher than other GTX 970s out there, but I'm still pretty confident that the speeds I've outlined below should be pretty representative no matter which third party card you happen to have.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Yes, but you're going to have to temper your expectations here. On its default settings (i.e: without any performance boosting tricks involved), the best you can hope for is an average of

63fps on Low

. Medium will still get you a playable average of 51fps, but you're also looking at lows of around 40fps, which may be too choppy for some. Personally, I think you could probably even get away with High if you didn't mind an average of 48fps, but that will naturally push those lows down even further. In my testing, I saw dips of 38fps.

As I mentioned above, you can almost certainly push that up a bit higher by enabling Temporal Injection (provided you've got an appropriately powerful CPU, of course), but that's as good as you're going to get here.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Alas, not really. Even

Low

only saw an average of

41fps

at this resolution, with lows of 30fps.

Can I play this at 4K?

'Fraid not pals. I mean, the GTX 970 was never cut out for 4K in the first place, but an average of just 17fps on Low? No thank you.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: Asus GeForce GTX 1060 OC 6GB

The

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060

is one of Ubisoft's recommended graphics cards for their High 1080p specification in their PC requirements for

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

, and boy howdy are they right on the money. Capable of delivering a smooth 60fps on these settings, you could probably push it even higher by using some of the tricks outlined on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide. Either way, it's all pretty promising stuff for those playing at 1080p. 1440p, on the other hand, not so much.

Admittedly, the Asus GeForce GTX 1060 OC 9Gbps edition I've used for this particular test isn't actually available to buy any more, but with a base clock speed of 1584MHz and a boost clock speed of 1809MHz, it's definitely one of the upper-end models that was ever produced. The only GTX 1060 cards with faster clock speeds are Asus' own ROG Strix model and EVGA's SSC Gaming ACX 3.0 version. As such, the results below are probably a best case scenario for current 6GB GTX 1060 owners rather than an absolute base line.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Absolutely. As hinted at above, the GTX 1060 is capable of a breezy

63fps average on High

at this resolution, and you could probably get away with bumping it up to Very High if you wanted to push it a bit. Here, I saw an average of 53fps, with lows around 43fps, but that's still perfectly playable in my eyes, especially if you take advantage of those performance-boosting tricks I mentioned earlier.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Unfortunately, 1440p is a bit too much for the GTX 1060, as even

Low

only managed an average of

56fps

. Bump it up to Medium and you're only looking at an average of 46fps, with lows of 36fps. Again, you could probably push it a smidge higher with the tips over on page one, but that's probably as good as it's going to get here.

Can I play this at 4K?

Barely. Sure,

Low

will get you an average of

30fps

, but with stuttering lows of 23fps, this card simply isn't powerful enough to make do here.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming

The

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070

has been one of the

best graphics cards

for 1080p and 1440p gaming ever since it came out, but it's definitely been put in its place by old

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

, lemme tell you. It's still pretty plain sailing as far as 1080p goes, especially if you employ some of the tricks outlined on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide, but 1440p is going to be a bit of a struggle.

That's with Asus' ROG Strix Gaming model at my disposal as well, as this is one of the faster GTX 1070s out there right now. As such, the results below are probably some of the better speeds you can expect to see from this type of card thanks to its high base clock speed of 1632MHz and boost clock speed of 1835MHz. That may not be particularly great news for slower GTX 1070 owners out there, but here's hoping the performance jump isn't too massive.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

You sure can. Whack it on

Ultra

and enjoy a smooth average of

57fps

. Ultimate is probably a bit beyond the reach of this particular card, averaging just 49fps in my tests, but you could probably push that closer to 60fps using the tips discussed over on page one of this guide.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Yes, but those looking to get as close to an average of 60fps as possible will have to make do with

Medium

, I'm afraid, as even this only came in with an average of

58fps

. In truth, you could probably get away with High here instead, as this was only a fraction slower at 55fps. Heck, even Very High's average of 47fps is playable if I'm being honest, but you will have to make do with the odd lows of 37fps if you decide to go for it. Ultra, however, only saw an average of 41fps at this resolution. Again, you could probably raise all of these with the tricks over on page one, but I suspect High is probably going to offer the best balance between speed and visual fidelity.

Can I play this at 4K?

Sorta, but not really. I mean, technically yes, because an average of

39fps on Low

is still just about playable for those of you absolutely desperate to play at this resolution, but with lows of 31fps you're getting dangerously close to being in judder central.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: Asus GeForce GTX 1660 Phoenix OC

The

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660

is hands down one of the

best graphics card

s for 1080p gaming you can buy today, but unless you employ some of the methods outlined on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide, those looking to play

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

on the very best graphics settings at this resolution may be a tad disappointed.

Admittedly, Asus' entry-level model is one of the cheapest GTX 1660 cards around right now, but with 6GB of memory and a boost clock speed of 1830MHz (up from Nvidia's reference spec of 1785MHz), it's certainly no slouch in the old specs department. As a result, the figures below should be broadly representative of what you'll find on other GTX 1660 cards available today.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

You sure can, and you can whack it straight up to

Very High

and get an average of

58fps

for your trouble, too. Ultra is probably doable as well, what with its average of 50fps, but Ultimate requires more video memory than the GTX 1660 has at its disposal.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Sort of, but an average of

59fps on Low

is probably the best you can hope for at this resolution. Medium is probably just about playable thanks to a reasonably smooth average of 49fps (with lows of 41fps), as is High with an average of 47fps, but the latter saw dips down to 38fps, which may be a mite too juddery.

Can I play this at 4K?

Not really. Yes,

Low

will get you an average of 32fps, but with lows of 27fps, you'd be much better off sticking to lower resolutions here.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060

Until

AMD's RX 5700

came along, the

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060

was by far the

best graphics card

around for 1440p gaming. It's still a great companion for playing

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

, though, even if it is a tad slower than its AMD rival. Still, if you may use of the tricks outlined on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide, you'll be hitting that sweet 60fps in absolutely no time.

I've got the Founders Edition on test here, which has a base clock speed of 1365MHz and a boost clock speed of 1680MHz. This is fairly typical compared to other third party RTX 2060 cards, a lot of which push its boost clock speed even higher. As a result, these speeds are probably the least you can expect to see from an RTX 2060, with faster cards likely able to squeeze even more out of it.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Can do, captain.

Ultra

will get you a sweet

60fps

average straight off the bat, and you can even make use of its Ultimate setting as well thanks to an average of 57fps.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Affirmative.

High

will get a solid average of

64fps

, but I reckon you could push it up to Very High thanks to its average of 55fps. Ultra might be a bit much without making use of my sneaky performance boosting tricks, though, as its default average came in at just 48fps.

Can I play this at 4K?

Sort of, but not really.

Low

finished with an average of

46fps

, but why settle for such muddy looking textures when you can get a much better experience at lower resolutions?

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super

A souped up version of the original

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060

, the

RTX 2060 Super

is a more clear cut contender to

AMD's Radeon RX 5700

. Indeed, in

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

, it came out ever so slightly ahead of AMD's new mid-range

best graphics card

champ, so you should be able to get the game running pretty smoothly without much need to use the tips I talked about on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide.

Nvidia's Founders Edition of the RTX 2060 Super actually follows their own reference spec to a tee this time (the Nvidia FE version of the original RTX 2060 was overclocked), so should be taken as very much a baseline for RTX 2060 Super performance rather than the absolute limit. As such, you may well find that other RTX 2060 Super cards are a bit faster than what I've detailed here.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Abso-posi-lutely. Crank it up to

Ultra

for an average of

74fps

, or go for 63fps on Ultimate. It's really your choice.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Posi-abso-tively.

Very High

will get you closest to 60fps with its average of

62fps

, but Ultra is perfectly within reach as well thanks to its average of 54fps. Ultimate might be a bit beyond the RTX 2060 Super, however, as this only came in with an average of 47fps. It's playable, sure, but you may need to enable Temporal Injection to get it back up into the 60fps zone.

Can I play this at 4K?

Yes, but only on

Low

, where you can expect to see an average of

53fps

. Try pushing it to Medium and you're looking at a much choppier 42fps average with lows of 35fps.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super

There are still plenty of regular

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070

cards knocking about these days, but when you can get the slightly faster

RTX 2070 Super

for pretty much the same (or a very similar) price, you might as well go for this one instead - especially when it's our current

best graphics card

pick for absolutely flawless 1440p gaming and a bit of 4K. However, while the RTX 2070 Super can hold its own at 1080p and 1440p in

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

, you're almost certainly going to have to employ some of the tricks outlined on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide if you're looking to play at 4K.

Much like my RTX 2060 Super results, the Nvidia Founders Edition of the RTX 2070 Super follows the reference spec for this particular card to the letter. No overclocking, nothing. As such, this is probably the slowest speeds you can expect to see from the RTX 2070 Super - although as you may have seen from my

RTX 2070 Super benchmark showdown

with cards from Asus and Zotac, you're not really gaining very much by spending more on an overclocked card. AS such, these results will probably be broadly representative of other RTX 2070 Supers out there, despite being just the reference spec.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Yep. Stick it on

Ultimate

and you can enjoy a super smooth average of

70fps

.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Yep and yep.

Ultra

will give you the smoothest experience here, thanks to its average of

61fps

, but I reckon you're probably all right cranking it up to Ultimate as well thanks to its average of 53fps.

Can I play this at 4K?

Yep and yep and yep.

Low

will get you a perfect

60fps

average, but Medium is doable here as well thanks to its average of 50fps.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super

Ubisoft recommends the regular

RTX 2080

as their 4K Ultra graphics card of choice for

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

, but even the

RTX 2080 Super

struggled to keep a steady frame rate here. Instead, I reckon Ubisoft are targeting 30fps in their recommended 4K Ultra, because there ain't no way in hell it can hit 60fps without deploying every performance boosting trick in the book outlined over on page one of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide.

I've got Nvidia's Founders Edition on test here, but as you may have seen in my

RTX 2080 Super benchmark showdown

, it's pretty much neck and neck with faster overclocked cards as well, showing you needn't spend loads on a more expensive card just because its GPU is slightly clocked slightly higher. As a result, the results below should be pretty representative of all RTX 2080 Super cards out there right now, and as you'll soon see, there's a lot to like.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Roger. Does an average of

79fps on Ultimate

sound good to you? I thought it would.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Roger roger. Admittedly, even the RTX 2080 Super couldn't quite manage a perfect 60fps on

Ultimate

here, but I think you'll agree an average of

57fps

is pretty much just as good. If not, then stick it on Ultra and get a smooth 69fps average.

Can I play this at 4K?

Roger roger roger. However, as I mentioned above, Ultra will only get you an average of 40fps on the RTX 2080 Super, despite the fact that it technically exceeds Ubisoft's 4K Ultra recommended requirement. Instead, the closest you're likely to get to 60fps is on

Medium

, which produced an average of

56fps

in my test results. High is doable, too, with an average of 53fps, but Very High starts to enter some pretty choppy waters at an average of 46fps. Ultra, meanwhile, only managed an average of 40fps on its default settings, which is a far cry from where we'd ideally like to be. Fortunately, I was able to bump that Ultra score right back up to around a 59fps average simply by enabling the Temporal Injection feature. Job done.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti

The

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti

is the big daddy of today's

best graphics card

s, but even this powerful beast will struggle to run

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

without a bit of help from some of the tips I've discussed over on page one of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide. It really is

that

demanding. That said, there's still plenty to like here, as you'd hopefully expect from such a ludicrously expensive GPU.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Fire it up, sarge. If an average of

90fps on Ultimate

isn't good enough for you, I don't know what is.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Roger that, commander. Whack it on

Ultimate

and enjoy a lovely average of

69fps

.

Can I play this at 4K?

Can do, captain. Admittedly,

High

will get you closest to a steady 60fps with its average of

64fps

, but Very High is still eminently playable at 54fps. Hekc, even Ultra is doable with 49fps, but if you really want the true Ultimate experience, then you're going to have to enable Temporal Injection, because otherwise you're looking at an average of just 41fps at this resolution.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: Sapphire Radeon R9 270 Dual-X

When Ubisoft say you really need an R9 280X to play

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

at 1080p, they really aren't kidding, because hoo boy this card is an absolute disaster. Yes, some of the tricks outlined on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide might be able to salvage something out of this card, but if you've still got one of these knocking around in your PC, I think the kinder thing to do would be to drop it in the nearest bin and pick up one of today's

best graphics card

s instead. The R9 270 had a good run, but it's day is done.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Oooof, I mean sort of, but it's going to be a bit of a stretch. Even

Low

barely made it through the benchmark with an average of

33fps

, and that was with some very choppy lows of 22fps. Yes, you could probably use all the tricks in the book over on page one to at least keep it above 30fps, but Low is definitely the limit of what's possible here, I'm afraid.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Hahaha, ahhahahahahaha. No.

Can I play this at 4K?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadefinitelynot.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: AMD Radeon R9 290

The R9 290 might just about squeeze into the minimum PC requirements for

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

, but even this card will struggle to hold a decent frame rate at 1080p without some serious compromises in the old graphics department. Admittedly, its healthier supply of 4GB of memory means the game is at least playable at 1080p compared to the R9 270's 2GB of memory, but even then it's not particularly pretty reading. If you want anything better than Low, then you're almost certainly going to have to use the tips outlined on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Just about.

Low

is probably the best you can hope for here, thanks to its average of

51fps

, as anything higher is just too much for this little card.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Again, just about, but this is naturally an even bigger ask than it was at 1080p. If an average of

41fps on Low

sounds playable to you, then by all means go for it. Otherwise, stick to 1080p.

Can I play this at 4K?

Alas not. The R9 290 did at least make a better stab at Low than the GTX 970 did at this resolution, but an average of 22fps still doesn't make it any more playable.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: PowerColor Radeon RX 580 Red Dragon

One of the

best graphics card

s you can buy today for solid 1080p gaming, the

AMD's Radeon RX 580

is a great match for

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

- especially if you've got one of the 8GB models like the PowerColor Red Dragon on test here. You see, with 8GB of memory at its disposal, this gives a lot more head room to cope with the game's Ultimate quality setting - a feat which the 6GB GTX 1060 and GTX 1660 can't really manage without some big red warning signs attached to them. Indeed, by taking advantage of some of the tips outlined on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide, you'll be up to 60fps on the very highest quality settings in no time at all.

This particular card is from PowerColor, and is the 8GB Red Dragon edition, which has a boost clock speed of up to 1380MHz. This makes it one of the faster RX 580s out there at the moment, but I'm confident the results below should still be broadly representative of what's possible on other 8GB RX 580s with slightly slower boost clock speeds.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Affirmative. On its default settings, your best bet is to use

Very High

, which will net you a silky smooth average of

62fps

, but you could probably manage Ultra as well if you don't mind an average of 52fps. Still, if you've got a CPU that's powerful enough to cope with its Temporal Injection feature, then even Ultimate will be within your grasp at this resolution.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Roger roger.

Medium

will bring you closest to 60fps at this resolution - indeed, it scored an average bang on

60fps

in my tests - but High is just as playable with its average of 54fps. Very High is also just about doable at 47fps, but you'll probably want to enable Temporal Injection to get back up to those nice high frame rates. The same goes for those looking to play on Ultra, which averaged just 41fps on its default settings.

Can I play this at 4K?

Alas, this is the limit of the RX 580, but let's face it, it was never really built for 4K gaming in the first place. Stick to 1080p or 1440p instead.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: PowerColor Radeon RX 590 Red Devil

AMD's Radeon RX 590

continues to be a pretty great graphics card for £200 / $200 these days, even if there aren't actually that many models available to buy right now. Still, for those of you that do have an RX 590, you'll hopefully find it's a most excellent companion for some solid

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

performance. Indeed, if you make use of the tricks outlined on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide, you'll be hitting 60fps on the very highest quality settings in absolutely no time.

Of the few remaining models that do still exist, the PowerColor Red Devil that I've been using for testing is more or less bang in the middle when it comes to base and boost clock speeds. This means that the results below should be pretty much representative of what you'll see on other RX 590s out there.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Yes indeed. While

Very High

will push you clear of the 60fps mark with its average of

65fps

, I think you'll probably be all right playing on Ultra as well. After all, this still produced an average frame rate of 55fps in the benchmark, which is still pretty darn great.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Indeed you can. You're probably safest on

High

at this resolution, thanks to its almost perfect average of

59fps

, but if you fancy pushing your card a teensy bit, then Very High and its average of 51fps is probably doable as well. I wouldn't recommend playing on Ultra, though, unless you're able to switch on Temporal Injection. Otherwise, you're only looking at an average of 42fps.

Can I play this at 4K?

Kinda, but not really. An average of

45fps on Low

is just about playable, sure, but trust me, it's not going to be very pretty. Stick to lower resolutions instead.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 64 Nitro+

The

AMD Radeon RX Vega 64

is starting to increasingly feel a bit old hat now, particularly when you consider this was the

best graphics card

AMD had to offer until only recently. Indeed,

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

has proven to be quite a tough opponent for the Vega 64, so you'll almost certainly need to deploy some of the tricks outlined on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide to hit those top frame rates.

Admittedly, it would appear Sapphire's Nitro+ edition of the Vega 64 is actually out of stock at most retailers out there, but if you wondering what the best case scenario might be for potential Vega 64 owners, this is a good place to look. With a boost clock speed of up to 1611MHz, it's certainly one of the faster models that have been produced so far, so some results may vary depending on whether you've got a slightly slower Vega 64.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Yes you can.

Ultra

will get you a lovely smooth average of

61fps

, but I reckon you'll be just fine playing on Ultimate instead with its average of 54fps.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Yes, you can indeed. You might need to temper your expectations a little bit, though, as I was only able to get an average of

62fps on High

at this resolution. Very High is almost certainly doable as well, thanks to an average of 54fps, but Ultra will likely get a bit choppy at 47fps unless you make use of its performance boosting Temporal Injection feature.

Can I play this at 4K?

Yes, you can indeed but you probably should not. Even

Low

will only get you an average of

47fps

, so you might as well opt for a much prettier experience at 1440p here instead.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: AMD Radeon RX 5700

The

AMD Radeon RX 5700

is without doubt the

best graphics card

you can buy for 1440p gaming right now, as it's even faster than the

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060

. Plus, it can even give Nvidia's more expensive

RTX 2060 Super

a run for its money as well. Yes, the RTX 2060 Super might have the edge in

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

, but there are still plenty of high frame rates to be seen here - especially if you decide to make use of some of the tips I've discussed on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide, too.

This particular edition is AMD's own reference version of the card, so the results below should probably be taken more as a baseline experience rather than an absolute best case scenario - especially now those third party models have started arriving on shop shelves with their superior coolers and overclocked boost speeds.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Yep. An average of

60fps on Ultimate

here we come.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Yep and yep.

Very High

and its average of

58fps

will probably get you the smoothest ride at this resolution, but you can probably push it up to Ultra thanks to an average of 50fps. Ultimate, meanwhile, will probably be too choppy at 42fps without a bit of help from the old Temporal Injection feature.

Can I play this at 4K?

Sorta yep, if you consider an average of

51fps on Low

to be worth bothering with over the infinitely prettier results you can get at 1440p.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT

I don't think there will ever come a day where I look at

AMD's Radeon RX 5700 XT

and think, yep, that definitely hasn't melted in some horrible way from overheating. The design, thankfully, is deliberate, but it's still unnerving all the same. Still, worrying looks aside, the RX 5700 XT is by far one of the

best graphics card

s you can buy today for great 1080p and 1440p gaming. It's a great partner for

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

, too, as it's able to hit lovely high frame rates at both 1080p and 1440p without needing to employ any of the tricks outlined on the first page of this

Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC performance

guide whatsoever. Ubisoft really weren't kidding when they said you need this card for its Ultra 1440p spec.

Indeed, I've only got AMD's reference version of this particular card, but there are now a swathe of better cooled and even faster editions available from third party manufacturers. As such, it's likely you may see even faster results than what I've detailed below.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Yes sirree, and you can even put it straight onto

Ultimate

, too, thanks to an average frame rate of

63fps

.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Double yes. On

Ultra

you can expect to see a lovely smooth average of

56fps

on its default settings, and probably even higher if you switch on the game's Temporal Injection feature. Ultimate is doable as well at this resolution, thanks to an average of 50fps, but you'll probably want to switch on that aforementioned Temporal Injection option just to make sure you're getting the smoothest possible frame rates.

Can I play this at 4K?

Triple yes, although this one's a bit of a smaller yes. You can get an average of

60fps on Low

, but why settle for that when you can get a much better experience on lower resolutions?

guide.

I've got AMD's version of the card on test here, but when all the other third party cards have exactly the same base and boost clock speeds as this one (if you can even find one to buy, that is), the results below should be more or less identical across the board.

Can I play this at 1920x1080?

Absolutely positively. Crank it up to

Ultimate

and enjoy a smooth

61fps

average.

Can I play this at 2560x1440?

Affirmative, but

Ultra

is probably the best you're going to get at this resolution, thanks to an average of

55fps

. Ultimate is probably doable as well, but only if you enable Temporal Injection. Otherwise, you're looking at an average of just 48fps.

Can I play this at 4K?

Kinda.

Low

is, sadly, your best bet here, averaging 59fps, as Medium only managed a mere 48fps.
