James Frame, European Sales Manager Samsung Hanwha Techwin explains, “Traditional home security and CCTV can be seen as complicated and thus off-putting for the average homeowner, so we are delighted to provide a simple new way for consumers to keep an eye on their home through a PC, smart phone or tablet from anywhere in the world and all at the touch of a button.
“Smart Home products will enhance virtually every aspect of our lives, from monitoring our health to improving education, making people safer and creating new experiences. Later in the year the SmartCam PT will be ‘Works with SmartThings’ enabled via a firmware upgrade and therefore making homeowners feel less concerned and in complete control of their home.”
Unlike conventional IP cameras which often require the user to have a knowledge of networking and router setup, the Samsung SmartCam PT uses innovative peer-to-peer technology for a faster and more secure experience and most importantly requires no software or technical knowledge so ideal for small businesses also.
The SmartCam PT boasts a stylish and compact design (measuring just 85mm wide and 84mm wide with a weight of 155g) meaning thecan be placed almost anywhere in the home. The camera comes with a bracket so that it can be either fixed to a wall or used free-standing. The lens itself can be panned 350 degrees and tilted with a range of 155 degrees (-80 - +75 degrees). Tilting the camera -80 degrees offers you the opportunity to change your camera from your smartphone or computer to a privacy mode.
The camera can capture video in 1920×1080 resolution and at 30fps (in H.264) it can simply be keeping an eye on your home and possessions or perhaps checking that the kids are getting on with their homework.
Users can also set up audio and video sensor notifications, which alert you anytime the device is triggered via real-time push notification. If movement or sound is detected in the room, the camera can be set to automatically begin recording onto the microSD card inside the device.
The sleek, matt black Samsung SmartCam PT is available in the UK from early July with an RRP of £139.
